The M.2 format is extremely compact and versatile. Among other things, it offers PCI Express interface technology and enables device manufacturers to develop compact and flexible devices. With this format, Hilscher offers the smallest PC cards of its kind in the automation market, which can be integrated into PC-based automation devices via PCI Express.
M.2 PC cards are available in two formats. For slave applications, the M.2 card with the netX 90 chip measures just 22 x 30 mm in the M.2 2230 Key A+E format. The version for master and slave applications is only slightly larger, measuring 30 x 42 mm in the M.2 3042 Key B+M format. Like all cifX PC cards, the M.2 version has a uniform user interface for all protocols and formats. A wide range of drivers makes the PC cards easy to integrate. Data access is via dual-port memory or via direct memory access. In addition, the cifX M.2 format is suitable for applications requiring an extended operating temperature range without a heat sink.
